TOGETHER WITH
Good morning, Annapolis. University of Maryland is so bad at football this year that they’re offering a chance at free tuition to any student who stays until the fourth quarter tomorrow. The marketing firm that came up with this expects attendance to rise 500% (from 4 students to 20).
In today’s Naptown Scoop:
Old Fox Books turns 10
FOX NFL Sunday at the Naval Academy
DOJ sues AACPS
Let’s get to it.

SHOVEL READY
Naptown Scoop is hosting the Annapolis premiere of DIG 🎬
Back in the very early days of Naptown Scoop, we fell in love with an Instagram account called Front Doors of Annapolis. It was anonymous. But we soon figured out the brains behind it belonged to a lovely Annapolitan named Kate Myers.
Fast forward 6 years, Kate’s a two-time best-selling author and the TV adaptation of her first book debuts on Peacock on November 23. We’re so excited that we’re hosting the hometown premiere at Maryland Hall.

Photo: Kate Myers on the set of DIG in Italy
We’ll introduce Kate on stage. And after the screening, she’ll do a Q&A with Laura Hankin, who wrote Netflix’s Don’t Say Good Luck and the bestseller One-Star Romance.
🏺 Foreword: DIG is based on Excavations, Kate’s 2023 novel. It follows four women archaeologists who dig up an artifact tied to an international conspiracy. Amy Poehler co-created the show with Mike Schur of Parks and Rec fame.
But Kate didn’t stop at one book. Her second, Salty, sends two sisters onto a luxury yacht to take down the real estate developer who bulldozed their childhood home. Get your tickets here and we’ll see you there.

In other news. . .
🦊 No Kindles Allowed – Old Fox Books & Coffeehouse is turning 10. Which surprised us, because it feels like it’s been on Maryland Avenue forever (in a good way). Jinny Amundson and Janice Holmes opened it on Small Business Saturday in 2016. The name’s a nod to George Washington’s nickname. Fun fact: The Old Fox himself resigned as commander-in-chief of the Continental Army in 1783 just 800 feet away at our state house. Happy birthday, Old Fox (the bookstore – George’s birthday is in February).
🏈 Bancroft Hall of Fame – FOX NFL Sunday is coming to the Naval Academy next Sunday (11/8). The pregame show goes live from the Yard and West Point at the same time. It’s part of FOX’s Veterans Day salute, which has a long history of filming at military installations. The show was at the Naval Academy in 2021 and West Point in 2019, but this is the first time it’s done both at once. Check it out at 11 AM on FOX.
P.S. Navy plays #5 Notre Dame in Foxborough, MA tomorrow for the schools’ 99th meeting. The Fighting Irish are a 30-point favorite but GO ARMY, BEAT NOTRE DAME. Btw, Navy and Notre Dame are 2 of the 13 FBS teams whose nickname doesn’t end with the letter “S.” Can you name the other 11? Answer at the bottom of the Scoop.
⚖️ Federal Lawsuit – The U.S. DOJ sued Anne Arundel County Public Schools Tuesday over its gender identity policy. The complaint says the policy has staff record a student’s chosen name and pronouns without telling parents, which DOJ argues breaks two federal student-privacy laws. Two parents sued over the same policy in July. AACPS amended it in August to spell out parents’ right to see their child’s full record. AACPS said in August it complies with FERPA.
