TOGETHER WITH

Good morning, Annapolis. Y’all we goofed on the Georgetown Plaza announcement last week . . . The property sold for $4.9M (not the $3.7M we reported). On the bright side, we had a chance to draw attention to Rosso Commercial Real Estate’s big sale again. Congrats to Scoop friend, John Rosso and his team!

In today’s Naptown Scoop:

  • Ignite Annapolis

  • Washington Caps rookie camp

  • Navy football report

Let’s get to it.

THE DIGEST

High school football preview 🏈

Football season has officially started, and while you might be breaking out your jersey to represent your favorite NFL or college team, we know a lot of enthusiastic locals who are just as supportive (if not more supportive) of their high school teams, whether it’s because they have a kid on the team, know a kid on the team, or are just proud of the kids on the team. So what’s the outlook for this season? At the end of last week, the Capital Gazette dropped its 2025 high school football preview with everything you need to know about pretty much every team (both public schools and independent schools) in the county. Get to know how they did last year, who the key players are, and what the outlook is for this season. Plus, you can get dates and locations for each game. ($)

Ignite Annapolis tix on sale 🔥

When we talk about igniting your mind, this is what we’re talking about: 15 thought-provoking speakers, each with a burning idea and five minutes to talk, will take the stage at Maryland Hall on October 21 at 7 PM for Ignite Annapolis. This event in partnership with Leadership Anne Arundel will cover topics like civic discourse, religion, healthcare, sexual assault, race, depression, addiction, and the environment. Get tickets.

Capitals rookies to practice in Annapolis 🏒

Guess who’s headed our way for some practice time this weekend? The Washington Capitals have their 2025 Rookie Camp starting Friday at Navy’s McMullen Hockey Arena and continuing through Monday. Participating rookies include Ryan Leonard, Lynden Lakovic, Terik Parascak, Andrew Cristall, and Ilya Protas. After their time here in Annapolis, they’ll head back to the MedStar Capitals Iceplex just outside of D.C. for the start of NHL training camp.

NAPTOWN SCOOP LOCAL BUSINESS IS POWERED BY. . .

Show Park Books some love on Wednesday

Remember the amazing movie You’ve Got Mail when a big-box bookstore opens up and threatens the adorable locally owned bookstore? We’re seeing a similar situation right here. This week, a Barnes & Noble is opening only 4 miles down the street from Park Books, which is locally owned and does a lot for our community (they even carry Scoop writers Lauren’s and Dylan’s books). While the new Barnes & Noble in Pasadena might be exciting, a big chain isn’t likely to be the community spot that a local bookstore is. For example, they don’t carry Dylan’s or Lauren’s books.

So if you’re like us and want to see the local bookstore continue thriving, stop by on Wednesday (that’s B&N’s opening day) to buy a book from Park Books — you’ll even get a surprise advance reader copy of an upcoming book with your purchase.

Saturday’s American Conference opener at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium was a weather-delayed, turnover-fueled, revenge-for-the-first-half kind of win — and it ended just the way we like it: with the Mids on top, 38–24. QB Blake Horvath was allergic to incompletions, throwing 6-8 for 168 yards and 1 TD. He also ran for 2 TDs. The defense couldn’t make a stop to save its life in the first half. They were an impassable brick wall in the second, allowing zero points and forcing three turnovers.

✈️ Next game: Away against Tulsa this weekend.
