TOGETHER WITH

Good morning, Annapolis. It’s National Donald Duck Day. 92 years ago today, a furious garbling Donald Fauntleroy Duck made his screen debut in The Wise Little Hen. Sticklers will note that the first screening was a May 3 charity benefit but Disney stamped it June 9 and we’re not about to argue with the Mouse. I bet you didn’t know that short-tempered duck has appeared in more Disney films than any character in the catalog, including Mickey.

In today’s Naptown Scoop:

  • Nico’s Bagels Edgewater edges closer

  • Arts Week's best nights

  • A county exec race dropout

Let’s get to it.

PITCH PERFECT

Where to watch the World Cup in Annapolis ⚽

The World Cup kicks off Thursday, with 48 teams playing across the US, Canada, and Mexico through July 19. And since it’s in the Western hemisphere, match times are actually somewhat reasonable.

Our top pick is the Old Stein Inn in Edgewater. As the county’s only German restaurant, you’ll see just as much black, red, and gold as red, white, and blue. Draft biers, wine, and house cocktails are $2 off during matches.

  • Closer to home: Other options include Dark Horse (more TVs than Best Buy and known to open early for soccer games), Seasalt (setting up a special outdoor viewing area), World of Beer, Stan & Joe’s Saloon, and Augie’s Mussel House.

The above places either have great vibes, specials, or promised to show every game. But you could always pick a spot by sheer number of TVs.

  • Buffalo Wild Wings – 📺 65

  • Miller’s Ale House – 📺 60

  • JB’s (Severna Park) – 📺 40

  • West End Grill – 📺 22

“Your Summer Plans Shouldn’t Include Managing Your House”

Chesapeake season has a way of filling the calendar fast.

Boat days. Weekend guests. Last-minute dinners outside. Trips that somehow turn into extended stays. The last thing most homeowners want to do in the middle of all that is coordinate maintenance appointments or keep track of a growing home to-do list.

That’s where Gold Seal Protection Plans come in.

Our concierge team creates a personalized maintenance plan built specifically around your home, your systems, and the way your family lives. Through scheduled visits and expertly managed service, we handle the upkeep behind the scenes so your home stays running smoothly without demanding your attention every other weekend.

Because luxury home care isn’t just about fixing problems.
It’s about not having to think about them in the first place.

Annapolis Arts Week gets weird on Friday 🎨

Anne Arundel Arts Month is well underway. Last week we had Paint Annapolis (outdoor painting). Now it’s Annapolis Arts Week. Paint Annapolis turned the city of thistle and rose into one huge art gallery. Arts Week welcomes you into “proper” art galleries.

Thursday is the Bounce! Gallery Walk. Participating local galleries stay open late (the walk’s from 5–8 PM) and some have live music and demos. Friday’s where it gets weird though. In a good way.

This year’s Bounce! Art Party is Monochrome edition. Pick a color and wear it head to toe. Rumor has it they asked the Savannah Bananas guy to emcee but they’ve got a sold out game in Nebraska.

Saturday closes things out with the Arts Annapolis Festival which takes over not just West and Calvert Streets but Maryland Avenue too! It’ll have 8 stages for live performances, “make and take” art opportunities, and so many demos (like glassblowing!)

The fun runs noon til 10 PM on West and Calvert and noon to 6 on Maryland Ave. Click here for all the Annapolis Arts Week deets.

In other news. . .

🗳️ One down – County executive hopeful Kyle Nembhard suspended his campaign Monday and threw his support behind fellow Democrat James Kitchin, just days before early voting opens. Nembhard, an Amtrak planner, said the two share a stance on keeping developer money out of local politics. Early voting runs Thursday through June 18, and election day is June 23.

🏗️ Red tape talk – If you've ever wrestled with an Annapolis building permit, the city wants a word. Its Let's Talk Permitting workshop on June 16 puts residents, contractors, and the staff who review building, grading, and stormwater plans in one room — 7 to 8:15 PM at Pip Moyer Rec Center. Civil conversation only please 😉

⛵ Float on – The City of Annapolis is installing an ADA-compliant floating dock at the 6th Street end on the Back Creek side. Work started Monday and runs about three weeks, so the little street-end park is closed for now. Good news for your car, though — 6th Street parking should barely feel it.

🥯 Bagel bound – Gambrills favorite Nico's Bagels & Brunch is coming to Edgewater, taking over the old Wendy's at The Market at South River Colony. The Crabby Bagel — crab, Old Bay, and melty cheddar — is about to get a second home. The shop also gives back through the Nico's Hope for Life Foundation, supporting mental health awareness in memory of the owner's son.

🍽️ Table for six – Our next Naptown Scoop Dinner Club seats you with five locals you (probably) haven't met yet at a restaurant you won't know until the morning of. Dinner Club #3 is June 17, and registration closes Monday, June 15 — so the window to roll the dice on new friends and a good meal is short.
