What's Going on for 2020 Veterans Day

We always observe Veterans Day on November 11 because that's when Germany signed the armistice with the Allies of World War I. However there wasn't formal peace until 8 months later with the Treaty of Versailles. Other countries call it Armistice Day or Remembrance Day.

It looks a bit different this year due to the pandemic, but there's still loads happening.

There's no ceremony at Memorial Circle. Instead, Mayor Gavin Buckley asks all residents to reflect on those who have served at 11 AM.

City of Annapolis government offices are closed. City trash and recycling is operating as normal. City transit is running on a Sunday Schedule.

All Anne Arundel County offices, senior activity centers, landfill and recycling centers, and WMS facilities are closed. Curbside trash collection is operating as normal.

The Naval Academy Band is playing a virtual concert at 7 PM. Commandant Buchanan will introduce the program, Midshipmen will be sharing stories of inspiring veterans, and the band will play patriotic favorites.
