THE DIGEST
Speed Cameras Might Be Coming to Your Street—Here’s How to Speak Up
The Annapolis Police Department is expanding its automated speed enforcement (ASE) program—and they want to hear from you before new cameras go up. This program used to be limited to school zones during weekday hours. But now, thanks to new rules from the State and Annapolis City Council, ASE can be used in any residential district with a limit of 35 mph or lower.
Here are the areas currently under consideration:
1100 block of Tyler Avenue
Duke of Gloucester Street
Edgewood Road
1400 block of West Street
Police Chief Ed Jackson says community feedback will help make the program fair and effective. So if you’ve got thoughts — pro or con — now’s your time.

NAPTOWN SCOOP LOCAL BUSINESS IS POWERED BY. . .
Chick-fil-A Arnold hearing on 10/1 🐔
Feathers are still flying over a proposed 2,852-sq. ft. drive-thru-only Chick-fil-A at 1500 Ritchie Hwy in Arnold near the CVS and Sunoco. The Board of Appeals will hold its next hearing October 1, 5–8 PM, at the Arundel Center (44 Calvert St).
Critics cry fowl over traffic, tree removal, safety, and pedestrian access, while Chick-fil-A insists on delivering “a restaurant experience that is both safe and efficient.” ($)
The Arnold Preservation Council is strongly against the new biz. Our sources tell us they’ve raised $11K on GoFundMe to fight it. One thing’s for sure . . . the clucking over this issue will continue.
Edgewater restaurant listed for sale; business says it’s remaining open
100 Lots, an Edgewater restaurant serving American classics with local ingredients, appeared on local restaurant broker Jim McGinnis’ website and social media over the weekend. Asking price? $199,000. 100 Lots opened in late 2023 and is located in the Edgewater Village Center near Sherwin-Williams and Safeway. The sale includes all equipment, fixtures, inventory, the liquor license, POS system, and the brand but importantly, not the real estate.
After appearing on the site, many loyal patrons reached out to the owners who assured everyone that while the business is for sale, they are open with no plans to close during the sale process.

Run for your life (or just for fun) this Halloween season 🧟♂️
“I only run if something is chasing me.” 🤨 If you’re a runner, you’ve probably heard some version of this from somebody who thinks their joke is original. But with Halloween season approaching, all of us actually do have the chance to run from something, thanks to spooky-themed races. Because nothing motivates you to finish the race quite like a zombie or another monster in mad pursuit.
Here's what’s coming up in Annapolis:
The Undead Mile
All you have to do is finish a mile, but you’ll be doing it at night and while evading horror-movie-quality zombies portrayed by professional actors. Afterward, celebrate with your fellow survivors at an after-party. The Undead Mile is a traveling attraction and comes to Annapolis on Oct. 25.
The Midnight Mile
If zombies aren’t your thing, here’s another nighttime run where you’ll have to escape supernatural creatures: the Midnight Mile gives you a nocturnal adventure where you’ll have vampires stalking your trail. Like the Undead Mile, this vampire run is a traveling event, and it’s coming to Annapolis on Oct. 11.
The RTB Fair Winds 5K Fun Run
This one isn’t exactly a monster run, but it does include a costume contest and it’s for a good cause. Taking place on Oct. 25 at Quiet Waters Park, the race raises money for scholarships for students in science programs. Best costumes will be awarded a prize.
Bonus: Zombie Fun Run at Field of Screams
This one’s not local, but it’s definitely worth the drive. You’ll be chased by zombies as you navigate a series of obstacles and scary scenes over a 5K course through the infamous Field of Screams haunted attraction in Pennsylvania. The race, set for Nov. 15, has waves all afternoon and into the evening, so you have plenty of time to make the commute.

First Republican enters county executive race
Severna Park resident Dave Crawford has officially entered the 2026 Anne Arundel County Executive race as a Republican, seeking the position held by current term-limited Democrat Steuart Pittman. Crawford is originally from Ohio, where he worked in food service management before moving to Texas and later Maryland. He’s called Severna Park home since 2012, where he most recently worked as the fire chief of the Earleigh Heights Volunteer Fire Co. While fire chief, he raised over $10 million in grant money to improve the fire house’s equipment. Crawford runs on a platform of school safety, affordable tax rates, and support for first responders.
Three democrats build Crawford’s field of opposition: James Kitchin, Allison Pickard, and Pete Smith. The deadline for filing is February 24, 2026, with the election slated for November 3.

Last season, the Rice Owls held Navy to their second-lowest yardage of the season (260) and won 24-10. On Saturday, Navy got payback. Although they scored fewer points, winning 21–13, Navy held Rice to 234 yards and tallied an impressive 455 yards to remain undefeated.
Head Coach Brian Newberry still believes his team has work to do and should have scored more points with so many yards. Indeed, 7 of Navy’s 10 penalties were offensive. And still, Navy is finding ways to win this year. Defense was a huge part of that over the weekend.
They held Rice to just 2 yards in the first quarter, forced punts on 5 of Rice’s first 6 drives, and didn’t allow a single point until there was less than a minute remaining in the third quarter.
Next game: This is a big one. Air Force at home this Saturday at noon (10/4). It’s the first game in the battle for the Commander-In-Chief’s Trophy. Navy’s favored by 10.5 points against the 1-3 Falcons but stats don’t matter much when that much pride’s on the line. Tickets are sold out. Watch live on CBS.
