AACC drops womenβs lacrosse πΒ π₯
Hereβs some sad news. . . Soon after Harford Community College and Monroe Community College foldedΒ their womenβs lacrosse programs, the National Junior College Athletic Association announced Thursday itβll no longer sponsor it as a varsity sport starting in the 2024-25 school year.
Anne Arundel Community College (AACC), one of four junior college womenβs lacrosse programs still standing, decided to shut down its program. On the positive side, womenβs lacrosse is growing elsewhere. Since 2004, 51 Division I schools have added it as a varsity sport, while 19 junior colleges have dropped it. The Riverhawks leave a legacy of 3 national championships, 58 All-Americans, and a record of 215-68.Β Jim Griffiths, the only head coach in AACCβs womenβs lacrosseβs 21-year history, will remain at the school as a womenβs soccer coach.
