TOGETHER WITH

Good morning, Annapolis. Here's a fact to drop at the farm stand this month: strawberries aren't actually berries (bananas technically are), and the average strawberry wears around 200 seeds — all on the outside.

In today’s Naptown Scoop:

  • Budget vote

  • Bakery boat closes

  • Welcome Home on State Circle

Let’s get to it.

Our Sofwave Summer Sale is here!

From Memorial Day through Labor Day, enjoy $500 off Sofwave treatments for the full face, full face + neck, or lower face + neck. Sofwave uses advanced ultrasound technology to stimulate collagen and elastin deep within the skin, helping lift, firm, and tighten the face and jawline without surgery or downtime.

Unlike many energy-based treatments, Sofwave is safe year-round, making it an ideal option for summer. Treatments are performed by our experts at Current Dermatology & Cosmetic Center using a personalized, evidence-based approach designed to deliver natural, refined results.

If you’ve been considering a non-invasive way to improve skin laxity and support long-term collagen production, this is the perfect time.

CITY HALL

City Council readies for final budget vote

Mayor Jared Littmann's first budget reaches the finish line tonight.

After weeks of hearings and amendments, the City Council will vote to adopt the whole FY27 package — operating budget, capital budget, and the property tax levy. Last week’s meeting was the real doozy, a 13.5-hour session where the council considered 156 amendments.

  • Money isn't the only thing on the docket. The council will also confirm a new HR director (Charles A. Hall, Jr.) and hear the nomination of Karen Ajayi as new finance director.

Want the details before the gavel drops? The full agenda is online, and the meeting's open to the public at City Hall. The public portion of the meeting starts at 7 PM.

THINGS TO DO

There’s No Eff in Irish (or Tides & Tunes)

Photo: Annapolis Maritime Museum

Eastport's favorite summer ritual returns Thursday.

Tides & Tunes, the Annapolis Maritime Museum's free Thursday concert series, kicks off June 11 with returning favorites Dublin 5 — a band that usually packs record-setting crowds (~1,500+) onto AMM’s tiny beach.

With good reason, I might add. I’m not afraid to say publicly that Dublin 5 is my absolute favorite local band. Annapolis has some fantastic musical talent, but nobody makes me smile like Dublin 5. My grandmother’s maiden name is O’Malley, after all.

  • The rundown: Every Thursday through August 20, 7–9 PM, on the water at 723 Second Street. Free to attend, donations keep it going, and food and drinks are for sale. Bring your own cup or get one there. This is a zero-waste event. No dogs. Chairs are fine but you’ll want to stake out your spot early.

Claim your patch of grass early — and see our full guide to the summer's outdoor concert series while you're at it.

In other news. . .

🚵‍♂️ Iowa ✅ Illinois ➡️ – Rex has officially left Iowa (and his first mechanical failure) behind and entered Illinois. The Land of Lincoln is a big stop for Coast 2 Coast. Chicago Bears legend Jimbo Covert is hosting Champions for a Cure on June 26 to support the cause. I’m no NFL Hall of Famer but we’re hosting our own Scoop for a Cure. Rex has 1,000 miles to go. We’re $8k short of raising $20k. Can you help us close the gap?*

🎓 Rare air — Severna Park grad (and valedictorian) Nora Devine is Anne Arundel's lone semifinalist for the 2026 U.S. Presidential Scholars Program. And one of just 14 statewide. Though there is no monetary consideration, the Presidential scholarship is among the most prestigious a U.S. high school grad can earn. Nora’s heading to UMD this fall to study mechanical engineering.

📚 Supe’s new deal — The Anne Arundel Board of Education meets Wednesday to finalize Superintendent Mark Bedell's contract for his second four-year term. So what does running an 85,000-student school system pay? Last year, Bedell’s comp was $379k (before paying Uncle Sam). The 10:30 AM meeting is open to the public and comments will be accepted.

⚽ Blues finally find net (a lot) — Much like when you lose an argument with your spouse so you go win one with the dog, the Annapolis Blues (men) stomped Patuxent 7-0 on Saturday after two straight shutout losses at home. Shoutout Rich Monath for the hat trick. Off the pitch, longtime soccer exec Jim Gabarra — "Mr. Soccer" himself — was promoted to club president. Good week to bleed blue.

🏡 Welcome Home leaves State Circle — The adorable home-and-gift shop at 64 State Circle has closed its Annapolis store. The building needed major repairs, so with the lease nearly up, the owners moved everything out and ended it early. The Easton and Chestertown locations are still open, and your gift cards still work — online or in person.

🥐 Bakery boat docks for good — Cocoa & Pearl Bakery, the floating pastry shop that delivered fresh-baked goods to Annapolis boaters from a restored 1959 crabbing boat named Honey Bun, announced its closure over the weekend to spend more time with family. A sweet idea while it lasted. But we respect the priorities.

Thanks for reading Naptown Scoop today. If you found something useful, please share it with someone who still hasn't gotten out on the water yet this summer. I know it’s not technically summer but it was 90ºF yesterday. I’ll call it what I want.
