Good morning, Annapolis. Smucker’s is suing Trader Joe’s over what it thinks is an unconscionable copycat of its famous Uncrustables. It’s not the first time the peanut butter police have taken legal action over Uncrustables. In 2022, they tried to squash a company called Gallant Tiger which makes incredible sounding Uncrustables copycats (think flavors like blueberry bourbon sage jam & peanut butter). Gallant Tiger’s still around but unfortunately, only sells sandwiches in Minnesota.

Let’s get to it.

You don’t need medicine. You need to stretch.
Don’t take it from us. Take it from the Washington Post. As reported by health and wellness columnist Gretchen Reynolds, “If your body is flexible, you’re likely to live longer than someone whose body and joints are tight and rigid, according to the first, large-scale study of the links between flexibility and mortality.” In the study by Claudio Gil S. Araujo, 3,139 men and women between ages 46 and 65 completed an evaluation of overall flexibility.
Researchers followed them for more than a decade. They found that people with the stiffest joints — especially women — were substantially more likely to die prematurely than those with greater flexibility. Assisted stretching decreases pain, improves posture and mobility, and increases longevity. One Scoop reader said StretchMed Annapolis literally changed his life. So what are you waiting for? NAPTOWN SCOOP LOCAL BUSINESS IS POWERED BY. . .
Foodie Friday: Bagel sandwiches to die for 🥯
We may not be NYC, but our town’s bagels hold their own. Just don’t tell that to anyone who’s ever lived in Manhattan. They’ll roll their eyes. Anyhow. . . the eat-anywhere bagel sandwich is a morning staple at these spots.
🦀 Naval Bagels: Owner Sean Adams learned to hand roll bagels in NYC (take that, Annapolis bagel haters). No wonder they’re an Annapolis (and Arnold and most recently Edgewater) institution. Lauren spent much of her 20s trying to get a sandwich named after her. Try the off-menu Lauren Maintenance: Old Bay bagel scooped, egg whites, bacon, avocado, tomato, and cheddar. Located across from the Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium, Naval Bagels is the perfect pre-tailgate fuel.
🧂 Bagels And . . .: All of their bagels and cream cheeses are made fresh, daily, and it shows. Their Salt bagels are something else. Try one with sausage, egg, and cheese.
🥓 Chick & Ruth’s: “Eggels” are breakfast sandwiches on New York bagels. Sorta cheating but tastes so good we don’t care. We recommend the Eggel Deluxe (Meat, Egg & Cheese).

CIVIL NEWS
AACPS Board of Ed adds new redistricting options
Anne Arundel’s school policymakers a good chunk of Wednesday’s meeting talking redistricting maps. New data showed Severn Run High is filling faster than expected, some plans partially unworkable. Superintendent Dr. Mark Bedell revealed a new plan, SR3, that doesn’t burden Severn Run. The board also made another plan, BR3 – built on SR3. Next step: Public hearings.
Public hearing dates haven’t been announced yet. Plans move anywhere from 700 to 1,500 students and an overview of each can be found here.
Elsewhere, the board voted to eliminate 6 early dismissal days in this school year (all in 2026) and replace them with 1 full student day and 1 full non-student day. A systemwide survey with 9,500 responses showed 91% approval for the plan.

With the undefeated Navy Midshipmen at the top of the American Athletic Conference standings, we think it’s more than appropriate that head coach Brian Newberry was just put on the Bear Bryant Award watch list. The award, presented by the American Heart Association, recognizes leaders who “that make the sport better for athletes and fans alike by demonstrating grit, integrity and a winning approach to coaching and life – both on and off the field.” This year, 28 coaches are on the list for the award, which will be presented in January. So keep that winning streak going, Coach!
