TOGETHER WITH

Good morning, Annapolis. The Artemis II astronauts are due for splashdown off the coast of California tonight around 8 PM EST. Now I wonder if they’re just like the rest of us and will leave their spacesuits in the corner of their room for no less than two weeks before doing post-trip laundry. Oh, that’s just me? Nevermind.

In today’s Naptown Scoop:

  • Cape St. Claire’s new fire station

  • 47 acres saved from development

  • Baby lambs and goats

Let’s get to it.

COMMUNITY

Y’all are amazing

We announced Team Naptown Scoop for the locally-organized Coast 2 Coast 4 ALS bike ride on Wednesday with what we thought was an audacious goal

  • $20,000 by the end of the ride (early July)

But in the two days since, y’all have donated over $7,700 to the team. So we’re raising the stakes. We want to hit our goal before the bikes start rolling on May 1.

To show you just how powerful this community is, we’ll break it down just like we did Wednesday. If everyone reading this donated 90 cents (not even a full dollar), we’d crush the goal today. So we’re gonna do the same thing we did Wednesday. We already donated an additional $90 so 100 of you are off the hook.

LOOKING BACK

Hollywood Farm

Tuesday’s most popular click was Hollywood Farm’s baby lamb and goat cuddles. If you missed it, they’re expecting 90 lambs this month and you can meet them for 30 minutes. April dates are filling fast but this is happening just about every Saturday through May 30.

Wednesday’s most popular click was Team Naptown Scoop in the Coast 2 Coast 4 ALS bike ride. Thanks a million for that.

And yesterday’s was of course, our guide to the fashion at the Annapolis Cup. It’s all about the hats.

I’d also probably have to fire myself if I didn’t remind you that World Market’s opening date has been announced as some time in July. It’s going next to Trader Joe’s.

In other news. . .

🌿 Saved from the bulldozer: Local officials will formally announce the conservation acquisition of 47 acres in the Saltworks Creek Watershed on Monday — protecting a stretch of forest and stream corridor off Bestgate Road that had been eyed for development for years.

šŸš’ New digs for Cape St. Claire firefighters: Anne Arundel County is breaking ground on a brand-new Station 19 on April 29. The Cape St. Claire Volunteer Fire Company has been in the same building for 70 years and though it’s been upgraded and added onto, it’s time for an upgrade. And what an upgrade it is! The crew’s promised they’re saving the big circle table for the new station, though.
