TOGETHER WITH

Good morning, Annapolis. We may have lost Spirit Airlines at BWI but JetBlue already picked up their slots with flights to two former Spirit BWI destinations: Fort Lauderdale (starting in July) and Puerto Rico (starting in November).

In today’s Naptown Scoop:

  • Steuart Pittman’s final budget proposal

  • Severna Park lax sweep

  • Board of Education meeting

Let’s get to it.

We Love Having You Here

Some days call for a reset. Yoga Factory is a good place to find it.

With studios in Annapolis, Arnold, and Crofton, they offer classes that meet you where you are. You might step into a heated Bikram class, slow things down with Yin or Restorative, or take a quiet moment in meditation. Each class gives you space to move, breathe, and come back to yourself.

The teachers guide in a way that feels steady and welcoming, whether it’s your first class or part of your weekly routine. You don’t have to overthink it. Just show up, roll out your mat, and begin.

They say it best. We love having you here.

BUCKET LIST: ANNAPOLIS SUMMER 2026 🪣 😎

Hey Scoop. Lauren here. Turns out the best fireworks in Annapolis aren’t on the Fourth. They’re on the third. And they’re in a neighborhood you can’t actually get into.

Unless you have a boat.

That’s just one entry on my 2026 Summer Bucket List – a mix of things I’ve done a hundred times and a few I’ve somehow never done even though I’ve lived here forever. I’m embarrassed to say that second group includes the Annapolis Summer Garden Theatre.

GOVERNMENT

What's in Pittman's farewell budget?

County Executive Steuart Pittman dropped his eighth and final budget Friday, calling it "A House In Good Order." The $2.58 billion plan is 7.3% bigger than last year's — and yet, it actually cuts the property tax rate.

Schools get the headline. AACPS landed a record-breaking $72.8 million increase, the biggest in county history and $20.8 million more than the record Pittman set last year. The property tax rate drops 0.9 cents to 96.8 cents per $100, while progressive income tax rates stay put — still the lowest in Central Maryland.

Three highlights that aren't schools:

  • Public safety. 21 new firefighters to staff a new truck in the Annapolis Neck/South County area, plus 9 new police positions to run the Real Time Information Center 24/7.

  • Help for vulnerable residents. Food bank funding jumps from $1.5M to $2M, the Family Protection Initiative doubles for immigrant legal aid, and five new Medicaid Navigators get added.

  • Infrastructure. Nearly $60 million to divert wastewater from the Patapsco plant, plus funding for new fire and police stations across the county.

What's next? County Council public hearings are May 13 and May 19. Explore the budget on the County’s website. Don’t worry. There’s a 35-page summary or even a 4-page highlight reel if you don’t want to read all 436 pages.
