TOGETHER WITH

Good morning, Annapolis. NASA launched the Hubble Space Telescope on this day in 1990. 36 years later, it still works just fine. Over 1,000 scientific papers cited Hubble data last year. But honestly, I'm more impressed that my 91-year-old grandmother knows how to use an iPad.

In today’s Naptown Scoop:

  • Class rank vote delayed

  • AACPS’ next student board member

  • Solar panels at St John’s

Let’s get to it.

“Dr. Murthy Restored My Confidence.”

That’s how one Annapolis patient describes her experience after combined eyelid and brow lift surgery with Dr. Namita Murthy. She says she felt informed, comfortable, and genuinely cared for throughout the process, and her results “far exceeded expectations” just weeks later.

Stories like this come up often at Murthy Facial Plastic Surgery. Patients talk about natural-looking results, thoughtful consultations, and a small, attentive team that makes the whole experience feel easy and personal from start to finish.

Thinking about doing something for yourself? Summer is the perfect time to start. Booking now gives you time to plan ahead so you’re ready for weddings, reunions and family photos.

Schedule your consultation to experience it for yourself. And follow @drnamitamurthy on Instagram for more patient stories and updates.

Ruth’s Chris is moving from Eastport to Annapolis Town Center

Image: SAINT

In the book of Annapolis restaurant history, the first half of 2026 will be a chapter titled “Severn Avenue Shakeup.”

  • In case you live under an oyster shell: Atlas Restaurant Group acquired a majority stake in the Boatyard Bar & Grill in January. Then we started hearing rumors about Ruth’s Chris moving. Yesterday, a press release turned those rumors into fact.

If renovations go to plan, Ruth’s Chris will be moving from its longtime home in Eastport to Annapolis Town Center this fall.

It’ll occupy the long vacant Chop House space. Which is bigger and has more parking than Eastport. And any Annapolitan knows how important parking is.

  • Sultan of Sizzle: Ruth’s Chris Annapolis owner Steve de Castro is a legendary Ruth’s Chris franchisee. Ruth herself hired him to manage a struggling Washington DC location in 1985. Seven years later, he opened his first Ruth’s Chris franchise. Today, he owns 9 in 3 states through his wonderfully named company, Big Steaks Management.

There’s no word on what will replace the Eastport steakhouse but we’re pushing for a Lewnes’ expansion with a glass skybridge over the Tecumseh parking lot and one of those airport moving walkways. . .

The Little Things You Learn to Live With

Some homes don’t feel broken.

They quietly collect small frustrations over time.

A door that never quite closes right.
A window that is tough to open and close and simply stuck.
A drawer you have to wiggle just so.

None of it feels urgent. None of it feels big enough to call someone about.
So you adjust. You work around it. You live with it.

And over time, that becomes the baseline.

At Gold Seal Services, we focus on the details that quietly shape how your home feels every day, so everything works the way it should, without you thinking twice about it. You deserve this and so does your home.

EDUCATION

Board of Education delays class rank vote

Anne Arundel’s top students will have to wait another month to find out whether they will once again get access to their class rank. AACPS eliminated class rank starting with the 2021-2022 school year.

  • While the grading policy overhaul (which includes the class rank issue) was scheduled for a final vote, the board voted 6–2 on Wednesday night to push the decision to its May 20 meeting.

Board members Robert Silkworth and Dana Schallheim led the delay, saying they hadn’t seen the accompanying grading handbook and didn’t want to vote without that. Student board member Brayden Morgan and District 3’s Erica McFarland opposed the delay, saying students deserve an answer sooner, especially for scholarship applications.

Elsewhere:

  • The future of phones: With Maryland’s Phone-Free Schools Act just awaiting Governor Moore’s John Hancock, AACPS plans to clean up its device policy before overhauling it in time for the law’s 2027-2028 deadline.

Nine AACPS students were honored at National Merit Scholarship Finalists. And the 2027-2028 school calendar got its first public preview.

🏆 This week’s top stories:

🎓 Sister act: Crofton High junior Sara Hamdaoui was elected Anne Arundel's 2026–2027 Student Member of the Board of Education, succeeding Glen Burnie's Brayden Morgan on July 1. She'll be the second Hamdaoui to hold the seat. Her older sister Hafsa was SMOB in 2024–2025.

☀️ Panel discussion: St. John's College cut the ribbon Wednesday on about 500 new solar panels atop Mellon Hall and the campus heating plant. The project can crank out 340,000+ kilowatt-hours a year — enough to power the whole campus for three weeks — and was funded by donations plus a $1 million state grant. ($)

💼 Summer in the City: Applications are open for the City of Annapolis' 2026 paid summer intern program for residents ages 14–24. The Young Teen track (14–16) pays $15/hour and the Young Adult track (17–24) pays $17/hour — apps close May 8 or at 100 per program, whichever comes first so don’t delay. Learn more and apply.
