SPONSORED BY 84 LUMBER
As a woman-owned business, 84 Lumber is proud to champion and support other women-led companies, particularly within the traditionally male-dominated construction industry. We understand the challenges women face in this field and are committed to helping break down barriers through initiatives that promote opportunity, growth, and recognition.
One initiative is our Women’s Business Enterprise (WBE) certification program, which provides national visibility and valuable resources to businesses that are at least 51% owned, operated, and controlled by women. This certification not only highlights a company’s commitment to leadership and excellence but also opens doors to new business networks and partnerships across the country.
At 84 Lumber, we believe that diversity drives innovation and long-term success. By uplifting women-owned businesses, we help foster a more inclusive and dynamic industry. Our certification program is just one way we continue to invest in a future where women entrepreneurs have the support and recognition they deserve to lead and thrive.

THE DIGEST
Annapolis’ new public water access plan 🌊
Annapolis is charting a new course for everyone to get on the water — no private dock required. The city’s first-ever Equitable Public Water Access Plan maps 63 sites across 8 creeksheds (Severn River, plus Weems, College, Spa, Back, Broad, Church, and Crab Creeks), aiming to make them more accessible, connected, resilient, and welcoming for all. With goals focused on equity, community, climate-ready design, and clear policy, the plan also aims to improve waterways in the future. Dive into the full plan.
🚣 Ready to launch your next water adventure? Explore the Public Water Access Mapping Tool to find your perfect paddling, crabbing, or casting spot.
Chesapeake Chapters: Pieces of Gold ✨
Chesapeake Chapters is back, and we’re revisiting an Annapolitan author you may know — even if her pen name keeps you guessing. Leah Kelly, known for her children’s books, made her novel debut with Pieces of Gold, a romance-meets-women’s-fiction tale rooted in the friendships of four very different women set right here in Annapolis.
Lauren writes: “*For our Naptown Scoop readers (aka Annapolis aficionados), this book is a must read. At its core, it’s a love letter to Annapolis.*” 💌
📖 Read the book review. Then grab yourself a copy because a sequel is on the horizon. Pieces of Sea Glass is due out March 2026. The time to read is now!

NAPTOWN SCOOP LOCAL BUSINESS IS POWERED BY. . .
Ho ho ho. Let’s save some dough
Great news. Remember yesterday’s outro about your friend who always has a coupon. Today we’re that friend. If you want to attend the Anne Arundel Chamber of Commerce’s Jingle & Mingle, the Chamber folks just let us know you can use the codes SCOOP or SCOOPVIP to save $15 or $25 on tickets and VIP tickets. The party’s this Friday at the Luminis Health Doordan Institute so saddle up. We love being the friend with the coupons.
🎀 Pink Friday: Kick off holiday shopping with community first
For anyone who stands in line while freezing and full of turkey — there’s a better way. Enter Pink Friday. It’s a national movement to support small, local businesses before Black Friday.
Women-owned boutique The Cottage is celebrating November 21 at their 149 Main St, Annapolis (10 AM—8 PM) and 562B Ritchie Hwy, Severna Park (10 AM—7 PM) locations. All day, visitors can enjoy: storewide sales, double reward points (earn $20 for every $150 spent), gift card giveaways, complimentary sips and sweets, and new arrivals in gifts, clothing, jewelry, and décor.
🎨 DTA neighbor and local artist Kim Hovell is also joining in on 11/21. Btw, Kim’s stunning art graces more than prints. For starters, think bakeware, blankets, and boat accessories. Enjoy 10% off your purchase (excluding artwork) and a complimentary 3-wick holiday candle on purchases over $200 at 151 Main St.

WHAT’S HAPPENIN’
What we’re looking forward to in December (and maybe a little November)
It’s the most wonderful time of the year! With holiday decorations going up faster than you can say, “Peppermint oat milk hot cocoa with extra drizzle,” it’s certainly looking like the holidays have arrived in Annapolis.
Market House | Annapolis Grand Illumination | The more-than 20-foot North Carolina Fraser fir makes its grand debut. Musical and dance performances, Santa sightings, and more. Sunday, Nov. 30, 3 PM to 5:15 (when the tree gets lit).
Main St. and Maryland Ave. | Midnight Madness | Three nights where Annapolis stars in its very own Hallmark Christmas movie. Grab your friends and a warm coat; the rest you can find in shops all over downtown. Dec. 4, 11, and 18 from 6 PM on.
Crownsville | Wildberry Vintage Christmas Market | Vendors, a hot chocolate bar, and so much good in this beautiful little farm. Saturday, Dec. 6 from 1–5 PM.
Inner West St. | Chocolate Binge Festival | Family-friendly entertainment, great holiday gifts, and (of course) chocolate. Sunday, Dec. 7 from 11 AM to 4 PM.
Navy Yard | 10th Annual Brigade Market | Hot chocolate, cookies, and holiday shopping. Tuesday, Dec. 9 from 10 AM to 4 PM.
Baltimore M&T Bank Stadium | Army vs. Navy | Being in Baltimore makes this practically a home game. Show up and as always, GO NAVY BEAT ARMY. Saturday, Dec. 13 at 3 PM.
Downtown | Santa Speedo Run | Think of this as a mass cold water plunge without the water. Then it seems much more sane. Saturday, Dec. 13. Registration starts at 11 AM at O’Briens.
Annapolis Inner Harbor | Eastport Yacht Club Lights Parade | It’s a Naptown holiday. Just remember to bring a thermos and warm boots, because the bridge gets cold under your feet. Saturday, Dec. 13 from 6 PM to 8.
St. Johns Campus | Annapolis Holiday Market | With City Dock under construction, the market is moving to St. Johns. Dozens of merchants selling everything you could imagine. Various dates starting Dec. 13.
Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium | Annapolis Military Bowl | The ACC and American Conference go head-to-head. And there’s a parade. Saturday, Dec. 27 at 11 AM.
Day of Acknowledgment Confronts Legacy of Slavery
On November 22, Anne Arundel County will issue a formal apology for its role in slavery and its lasting harm on our community. The acknowledgment is part of a day of recognition and conversation, examining the far-reaching impacts slavery has had on generations of Black Americans and educating residents on opportunities for improving the lives of families and individuals. The afternoon discussion is a partnership between the County and the Maryland State Archives, who will have exhibits on hand. Saturday, Nov. 22, 10 AM to 2 PM at Maryland Hall.
