Good morning, Annapolis. My brother in Chicago just sent a picture of his kids’ Halloween haul (sorted by type) on their dining room floor. And all I have to say is I think I’ll buy some stock in the Hershey Company. Disclaimer: this is a joke, not financial advice.

In today’s Naptown Scoop:

  • Election Day

  • Blanca Flor’s holiday pop-up

  • A deli’s AI mishap

Let’s get to it.

SEA-DUCTION

Osteria 177’s owners open Molo Lounge on Market Space 🍸

Photo: Molo Lounge on OpenTable

The old Pearl space on Market Space has a new name (even if it is on a temporary sign). Molo Lounge, from the team behind Osteria 177, held its soft opening over the weekend. And you can book a table right now.

Molo is Italian for pier (or wharf). Appropriate for a restaurant 226 feet from the water. The menu is Mediterranean fusion and will feel familiar to Osteria regulars, thanks to the font and a few favorite dishes.

  • 🐟 Oh so fancy: One thing you won’t find at Osteria: caviar. The real-deal stuff (with prices to match). The Sea-Duction ($900, billed as serving 4) includes 2 ounces of Kaluga Reserve caviar, a dozen oysters, tuna crudo, ceviche, and a bottle of Dom Pérignon for good measure.

As we mentioned, last weekend was just the soft opening, but reservations are available on OpenTable. Based on the calendar, it appears Molo Lounge will be open Wednesday–Sunday from 4–9:30 PM.

We swung by and snagged some pictures of the menu on the door and will keep you updated on a grand opening.

POLL POSITION

What’s on your ballot today 🗳️

Today’s the day. Polls are open from 7 AM to 8 PM, and believe it or not it is still not too late to register. Got a mail-in ballot sitting on the counter? Get it postmarked today or drop it in a ballot drop box by 8 PM.

The big local race is for county executive. Steuart Pittman’s served his two terms, so he’s on to whatever’s next. County Council member Allison Pickard (D) and Dave Crawford (R) both want the job.

Two County Council races hit close to home. Former Annapolis Mayor Gavin Buckley (D) faces George Gallagher (R) in District 6, which covers Annapolis. In District 7, Chick & Ruth’s owner Spencer Jones (D) takes on Dawn Pulliam (R). No matter who wins, it’ll be a new face in both seats.

And of course, at the top of the ballot, incumbent Gov. Wes Moore (D) is up against Dan Cox (R).

Flip the ballot over and you’ll find six questions. Three are statewide, including one on redistricting. But the other three involve the county charter:

  • Question A would let every county employee union settle contract disputes through binding arbitration. Right now only firefighters and police, sheriff’s, and detention officers can.

  • Question C would stagger terms on the Planning Advisory Board and make the County Council confirm the county executive’s picks.

Question B is housekeeping. It drops the “Administrative Officer” title from the charter.

Results start posting after 8 PM, and we’ll have some for you tomorrow. Find your polling place and sample ballot here.

In other news. . .

🥪 Is This AI? – Chick & Ruth’s Delly posted a doctored Capital Gazette front page Thursday that called owner Spencer Jones an incumbent. Just one problem. He isn’t. Jones, who is running for the District 7 County Council seat, says his marketing agency ran a blurry photo of the real newspaper page through AI and it rewrote the text, including a line praising the deli that the Gazette never wrote. The deli took the post down and apologized Friday. ($)

🏘️ Rental Rules, Round Two – Got thoughts on the Airbnb next door? The city’s first short-term rental forum is tomorrow at 6 PM at Pip Moyer Recreation Center. The council paused new licenses for non-owner-occupied rentals for 12 months in March, and planning staff want to know how short-term rentals should work after that. Can’t make it? There’s a second session November 18 at the Busch Library. Or you could just take this survey online.

💅 Nailed It – Anne Arundel high schoolers could soon take Nail Technician 1, 2, and 3. They’re three of 18 new courses the Board of Education votes on tomorrow. The list also has hotel and resort management, robotics, criminal justice and law enforcement, and integrated algebra. Staff will walk the board through each course before the vote. The meeting starts at noon at the Parham Building on Riva Road. See all 18 courses.

🪙 Silver Lining – Blanca Flor promised it would come back downtown, and it’s keeping that promise earlier than we thought after closing its longtime Market Space store in July. The Mexican sterling silver shop is opening a pop-up at 86 Maryland Avenue in mid-November with jewelry, artisan pieces, and gifts. Overland Sheepskin Co. is moving into Blanca’s old spot though there’s no opening date for that yet either.
