TOGETHER WITH

Good morning, Annapolis. Hello, sharks. My business is retrofitting the iconic Dulles people movers into bars and Airbnbs. We’re seeking ten million dollars for one percent of our business. Who’s ready to take off with us?

In today’s Naptown Scoop:

  • 9 block parties Tuesday

  • Killarney House turns 25

  • The week’s most-clicked

Let’s get to it.

— Ryan Sneddon

P.S. Advance happy birthday, Jenna Branston!

The people have spoken – well, clicked. Here’s what you couldn’t resist this week 🏆

And some other big stories, in case you missed them:

🧩 Annapolis was an answer in the New York Times Connections puzzle Tuesday, filed under words that start with palindromic names. Hi, Anna.

🏟️ DICK’S House of Sport opens at Annapolis Mall August 14–16, with Ravens legend Ed Reed at Friday’s 9 AM ribbon cutting and Derrick Henry signing autographs Sunday.

🌊 The city says Tuesday’s City Dock flooding was flash rain, not the tide – and the rebuilt City Dock’s pumps will move 100 times more water when it reopens about a year from now.

SPONSORED BY THE PENINSULA ATHLETIC LEAGUE

An Annapolis Institution since 1975

Nope, it’s not McGarvey’s (founded June 19, 1975).

It’s not the Annapolis Watercolor Club either (also founded 1975).

I’m talking about PAL Hawks Football.

For over fifty years, they’ve been teaching kids character and teamwork the way only a football field can. Here’s the deal.

It’s open for kids ages 8–14 and is $175 for the entire season. But you have to act fast.

Registration closes July 31. All games are played right here in Annapolis so there’s no traveling and we hear there’s a mean concession stand.

In other news. . .

🚴 The Final 100 Miles – The Coast 2 Coast 4 ALS ride blew past its $500,000 goal this week – $505,378 and counting. Now comes the last challenge before Rex rolls into Dewey Beach on August 14: 100 sponsors covering the final 100 miles at $100 apiece. Team Naptown Scoop needs 70 more miles to hit our $20,000 goal. Sponsor a mile here.

🦪 Last Call at O’Learys – The Eastport institution serves its final dinner Sunday, closing out a 43-year run. Want one more meal? Move fast: Sunday is fully booked, Saturday’s earliest open table is 9 PM, and tonight’s is 9:30 PM. Grab what’s left.

👮 Block Party Beat – National Night Out is Tuesday, August 4, and you’ve got nine options. The City of Annapolis hosts five neighborhood events at Annapolis Walk, Bay Ridge Gardens, Clay Street, the Busch Library, and Woodside Gardens. County police host four: Annapolis Mall (Southern District), Kinder Farm Park (Eastern), Crofton Country Club (Western), and 10th Avenue Park in Brooklyn Park (Northern), all 6–8 PM. Free food, games, and safety demos at every stop.

🍀 Silver Shamrock – Killarney House is throwing itself a 25th birthday party that runs all September: live music, throwback dishes pulled from old menus, and charity fundraisers where the house matches what you give. Galway Bay’s owners built it in 2001 from the burned-out shell of the old Spring House Restaurant. Full lineup here.
