Reminder: Annapolis elections next week 🗳️
We’re only days away from the city’s general election next week — three business days (counting today) and five days if you include the weekend. For city residents, this is a big election because Mayor Gavin Buckley is term-limited. That means we’ll have a new mayor: either Jared Littmann or Robert O’Shea. Additionally, at least four City Council seats will have new aldermen or alderwomen.
When and where?
Have you made your plans to vote yet? Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 4, and polls are open 7 AM—8 PM. You need to be in line by 8 PM to vote.
Each city ward has its own polling place, so where you vote depends on your ward. (Need a reminder which ward you’re in?)
Ward 1 – City Hall, 160 Duke of Gloucester St.
Ward 2 – Michael E. Busch Annapolis Library, 1410 West St.
Ward 3 – Mt. Olive Community Life Center, 2 Hicks Ave.
Ward 4 – American Legion Post #141, 1707 Forest Dr.
Ward 5 – Roger “Pip” Moyer Recreation Center, 273 Hilltop Ln.
Ward 6 – Eastport Community Center, 1014 President St.
Ward 7 – Eastport-Annapolis Neck Library, 269 Hillsmere Dr.
Ward 8 – Eastport Volunteer Fire Hall, 914 Bay Ridge Ave.
ICYMI, a few weeks ago, the Capital Gazette profiled both the candidates for mayor, Jared Littmann and Robert O’Shea. (Note the Capital Gazette requires a subscription to view.) Additionally, earlier this week, Littmann released a five-action plan for his first 100 days in office. It includes meeting with city department heads, leading roundtables with city staff, planning improved communication with residents, identifying leads to tackle top issues, and building a proposed city budget.

THE DIGEST
Guide to Food Assistance 🥫
Our hearts are breaking that SNAP benefits are set to run out on November 1. The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program — once called food stamps and dating back to the Great Depression — is the nation's largest anti-hunger effort. One in eight Americans receive SNAP benefits. Most recipients are seniors, families with kids, and people with disabilities. According to the USDA, over 660,000 people in Maryland rely on SNAP.
Need help?
The Maryland Food Bank offers a guide to find food assistance near you.
How can YOU help?
We’re so glad you asked. Consider donating to trusted charities like the Maryland Food Bank, The Light House (a homeless prevention support center), or SPAN (Serving People Across Neighborhoods).
Also, Arundel Federal Savings Bank’s food drive ends tomorrow. Find your nearest branch and hours to drop off nonperishable food donations.
West Annapolis office spot sells for $2.5M 🏢
The Scoop team loves West Annapolis and might need to drop in for a visit with friend of the Scoop Brad Kappel. His real estate team, doing business under the name Make Your Move LLC, closed on the property at 103 Annapolis Street. It’s a three-story retail and office building in the heart of the West Annapolis commercial corridor. It was originally supposed to be the storefront of former home decor and gift boutique Revival. But Revival’s plans changed, the property returned to the market, and Make Your Move put in an offer at the end of September 2025. Now there’s a new business in the West Annapolis commercial district — and we’re here telling the story about the real estate move of a real estate team.
Classic Trumpy motor yacht hits auction
Want to own a piece of classic Chesapeake Bay history? The Mary Lynn is a 65-foot Trumpy motor yacht built in 1962 right here in Eastport. She’s now up for auction with a starting bid of just $50,000, Chesapeake Bay Magazine writes. Since 1987, she’s been the property of the Maryland Port Authority, who used her to host clients. With three berths and two heads for guests, along with spaces for crew and captain, she’s made for entertaining in style. While the many photos listed look great, she needs some work to get ship-shape (she was last surveyed in 2022). Other Trumpys on the market are listed anywhere between $200k and $2 million, so this could be your chance to own a piece of Chesapeake Bay history for an absolute song.

🔎 What are Trumpy yachts? Trumpy & Sons was a luxury yacht building company based out of the Annapolis Yacht Yard from 1948 to 1973. Among their clients were the DuPont, Chrysler, and Guggenheim families, Howard Hughes, and John Wayne.

NAPTOWN SCOOP LOCAL BUSINESS IS POWERED BY. . .
J.Crew Factory is coming soon 🛍️
It’s about to get a lot preppier at Festival at Riva. J.Crew Factory is moving into the former Lane Bryant space at 2311 Forest Dr. Ste C in Annapolis, between Five Below and House of Hunan, in a roughly 5,600 sq-ft space. For non-shopaholics, J.Crew Factory offers the same great quality (and yes, preppy) clothes for women, men, and kids — but at discounted J.Crew prices. It’s like walking in with coupons you didn’t know you had.
What’s the timeline? The lease was just signed, so no exact opening date yet. Our sources estimate by Summer 2026, in time for the fall season, pending construction, permitting, and fixturing.
🫖Bonus tea: Festival at Riva also has these new businesses coming soon:
New Balance: Every dad’s favorite shoe + a classic for many others
Blue Sunday: A full-scale Asian American restaurant
The Paper Store: Shop brands like UGG and Steve Madden, plus beauty essentials, home décor, and more.

Event Rescheduled: AA County’s Formal Apology for Slavery
A few weeks ago, we wrote about the county’s A Day of Acknowledgement: Confronting the Legacy of Slavery event, where a formal apology will be issued for the far-reaching impact slavery has had on generations of Black Marylanders. Due to overwhelming interest, the event has been moved to November 22, which will allow more to attend (the original event was scheduled for the Maryland Hall’s Bowen Theatre; the new date will be held in Maryland Hall’s main theatre). The program is in partnership with the Maryland State Archives and will feature educational exhibits as well as reflection and dialogue with community leaders. 10 AM on November 22 at Maryland Hall. Pre-registration is requested.

Anyone waving a finger at us for talking about Navy football too much . . . we’ll just go wave our giant gold foam finger back at you. The #23 ranked Mids are 7-0 — their best start since 1978 — and one of six unbeaten teams (BYU, Georgia Tech, Indiana, Ohio State, and Texas A&M). To say we’re invested is putting it lightly.
They’ll face American Conference foe North Texas on the road this Saturday (11/1) at noon ET. The Mean Green are 7-1 overall, 3-1 in the American, and feature the nation’s highest-scoring offense, led by prolific redshirt freshman QB Drew Mestemaker.
