TOGETHER WITH
Good morning, Annapolis. Did you know that KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, founded on yesterday’s date in 1919, is the oldest airline still operating under its original name? The KLM stands for its true name Koninklijke Luchtvaart Maatschappij which roughly translates to Royal Dutch Airlines. So yeah, we’re gonna stick with calling it KLM.

Dog of the Week: Meet Batdog 🐾

This is a first, but we’re renaming Kobe Tucson. With those ears? Batdog is clearly the only appropriate choice. Just in time for spooky season, this wise 10-year-old Chihuahua with the body of an Italian Greyhound is ready to swoop into someone’s heart. Originally adopted from the SPCA as a puppy, he was returned ten years later due to his owner’s health.
Batdog can be shy at first but warms up quickly and gets along well with his fellow small-dog roommates. He does have some separation anxiety, so an owner who’s home often is a major plus. Consider this your Bat-Signal: adopt him now — before he flies off with someone else! 🦇
Check out the new Blues scarf 🧣
It feels like just yesterday we were encouraging you to submit your designs for next year’s Annapolis Blues FC scarf — and as of this week, the winning design has been announced. Based on votes, this scarf design featuring the Blue Angels, the Bay Bridge, and (of course) a crab will be the official accessory for Annapolis Blues fans next year. All Anchor Club members get a scarf for free, so if you haven’t joined yet, consider this your reminder. Bonus: You get lots of other great perks as well, like full season access and a merchandise discount.

Brick Companies sells final marinas to focus on golf
The Brick Companies, an Edgewater-based company, recently sold all three of its marinas to focus on their two golf clubs, public Queenstown Harbor and the private Golf Club at South River. Grove Point, the buyers, currently own and operate more than 20 marinas between Florida and Vermont. While the specifics of the deal aren’t disclosed, Atlantic Marina at Ferry Point was was last purchased in 2019 for $7.2 million. In downsizing, Brick Cos. hopes to expand its “fun division” with a waterfront resort and venue at the Queenstown club. "A small inn and a beautiful place to have a waterfront wedding would be great,” says Joan Renner, CEO and fifth-generation member of the family business. We’re already happy to cross the bridge to play a round at Queenstown (River course always), so the idea of spending a weekend there is even sweeter. ($)
Iconic Schooner Woodwind Sold to Andy Schell of 59º North Sailing

The Schooner Woodwind Sailing Cruises recently announced a change of watch with the Kaye family selling the business to Andy and Mia Schell of 59º North Sailing. The Kayes launched the business in 1993, and hired Schell almost 20 years ago to intern as a deckhand. Since then, Andy has grown his own sailing business with 59º North Sailing, expanding with offshore sailing charters that cover anything from a Transatlantic to a Faroe Islands sojourn. “Andy’s strengths in sailing, maintenance, and big-picture marketing make him the perfect person to guide Schooner Woodwind into its next chapter,” says Captain Jen Kaye, who has sailed frequently on and off the Bay with Schell. The new owners hope to expand the Kayes’ original vision by taking sailors on long-distance sailing passages as well as sunset cruises around Annapolis. We cannot wait to see what this new chapter brings!

WHAT’S HAPPENIN’
Little Treasury Jewelers - Time Out Watch Fair ⌚️
Ever feel like . . . you’re late! Late! For a very important date?!
Same.
Here’s an event to watch out for. Little Treasury Jewelers — a Gambrills-based luxury watch and jewelry dealer — hosts its 13th annual Time Out Watch Fair on October 10–11. One of the largest watch fairs in the U.S., Time Out brings together collectors, enthusiasts, and industry insiders from around the world. Attendees can explore incredible timepieces and enjoy freshly shucked oysters, drinks, goodie bags (while supplies last), a Watch Wardrobing Contest, and more. Little Treasury Jewelers will hold this year’s fair at The Village at Waugh Chapel. Which yeah, is a little outside our radius, but our horophile readers will thank us.
⏱️ Don’t let time run out. RSVP.
