TOGETHER WITH

Good morning, Annapolis. Although it may be America’s most hated candy (not my opinion. There are real surveys), candy corn is the best-selling Halloween candy in Maryland. So if you’re giving it out this year, don’t let anyone make you feel bad. Everyone else is, too, whether they admit it or not.

In today’s Naptown Scoop:

  • DĆa de los Muertos

  • St. John’s College’s new building

  • AI rules for schools

Let’s get to it.

Thinking about the HALO laser this season?
Meet HALO TRIBRID.

Laser season is approaching, and HALO is one of the most talked-about laser treatments for skin rejuvenation. But not all HALO technology is the same. If you’re investing in your skin, it’s worth knowing which HALO you’re getting and who is performing your treatment.

At Current Dermatology & Cosmetic Center, we offer HALO TRIBRID, the most advanced HALO technology. While traditional HALO combines two wavelengths, TRIBRID adds a third, giving us more options to treat different depths and concerns in the same treatment.

This added flexibility allows us to more precisely target sun damage, brown spots, fine lines, texture, and signs of aging, with less discomfort and downtime.

The technology is only part of the equation. At Current Dermatology, every HALO TRIBRID treatment is planned and performed by a board-certified dermatologist with expertise in skin biology, laser safety, and selecting the right settings for your skin and your goals.

There’s a reason Current Dermatology has been voted Best Laser Skin Treatment by What’s Up? Annapolis for three years in a row.

If you’re considering HALO this laser season, make sure you’re getting the best. At Current Dermatology, you get the most advanced HALO technology backed by dermatologic expertise. Visit www.currentderm.com or call (410) 384-3045 to schedule your treatment.

COLLARS ARE SO IN

Jersey #7 won the Blues’ 2027 vote šŸ”µ

I’ve never bet on horse racing. But I imagine this is how it would feel.

On Saturday, the Annapolis Blues announced jersey design #7 is the official fan-voted jersey for both the men’s and women’s teams in 2027. Fans on Facebook are calling it a classic 70s/early 80s look. And as fans of all things old school, we approve.

We fell in love with jersey #7 from the start so we’re stoked. But the Blues would have looked good in any of the options 😘

Voting was only open to season ticket holders but there’s still a good reason to become one if you aren’t already. Not only do you get into every home game (both men’s and women’s with the Full Tide membership) but you also get one of the jerseys!

And I’m not saying the Scoop influenced this vote. But I’m not not saying it either.

MARIGOLD RUSH

Saturday’s not just Halloween 🌼

It’s also Day of the Dead (properly known as DĆa de los Muertos) in Annapolis. The free celebration is 3–8 PM at Maryland Hall and here’s what’s on the poster.

There’s live music from Grupo Etnia, Natalia Carrasco, Heroes de la Nada, Carolyn PeƱa, and the True North Academy Bilingual Choir. Peru Folklore MD will perform traditional dance. And Vanessa & the Catrinas will show off designer Darwin NuƱez’s dress collection. Plus there’s authentic food, local artisans slinging their wares, and games for the kids!

For the uninitiated, DĆa de los Muertos is a Mexican holiday where families build altars called ofrendas for deceased family and friends with marigolds, photos, and their loved ones’ favorite foods. The Annapolis festival’s theme this year is "Honoring our ancestors, sharing our culture, and strengthening our community together."

In other news. . .

šŸˆ Homecoming Heartbreak – Navy lost 49–39 to North Texas Saturday, which snapped an eight-game home winning streak. The Mids fought back from 18 down and cut it to three with 10:49 left. Then North Texas broke a 59-yard touchdown run. The Mean Green also scored on a punt return and a fumble return, and that made all the difference. Even with the loss, QB Jackson Gutierrez was a bright spot again with 228 rushing yards and three touchdowns. Navy (2–5) plays Notre Dame Saturday at noon in Foxborough.

šŸŽØ Brush With Approval – St. John’s College’s new arts building is on "a very approvable path," one city Historic Preservation Commission member told the college Thursday. It was a work session, so there wasn’t a vote. But the whole commission agreed the arts building and the plan to move the Chancellor-Johnson House to College Creek are feasible. Next, SJC has to file a formal application.

šŸ¤– Robo Rules – You’ve got until November 21 to tell the school board what you think of its first AI policy. The two-page draft says AI can’t replace a teacher’s judgment, every AI tool gets vetted first, and a human has to check any AI-assisted decision about a student. What it doesn’t say is how kids can use AI. AACPS will write those rules after the board adopts the policy in December. Email your thoughts to [email protected].

🌳 Tree’s Company, Part 2 – City of Annapolis residents, you’re up. Today, Watershed Stewards Academy starts taking city orders for Groves of Gratitude. A native tree is a suggested $25 donation, and a whole grove is $50. If that’s too much, they’ll give you trees for free. Half the money goes to 2-CM Dreams, which gets local kids into swimming, sailing, and the trades. Order by November 4 and pick up at Pip Moyer November 9, 10, or 12.

šŸ›ļø Shovel Ready – Winter’s on tonight’s City Council agenda (7 PM, City Hall). A new bill would give you 8 hours to clear your sidewalk after a storm under 4 inches, and 24 hours for 4 or more. Right now you get 3. Miss the deadline and the city can shovel it for you, then bill you $250 to $2,000 depending on how much sidewalk it cleared. Also up: a public hearing on the 14-day eviction notice, a presentation on a hybrid-electric passenger ferry, and possible final votes on parking in front of your own driveway and food trucks downtown. Here’s the full agenda. Want to weigh in? Submit testimony online or sign up at City Hall a half-hour early.
