TOGETHER WITH
Good morning, Annapolis. Today would normally be the last day of February but Julius Caesar had an idea in 46 BC and now we have leap years.
In today’s Naptown Scoop:
Chase-Lloyd House
Black History Month movie screening
Summer camp expo
Let’s get to it.

Grand Manor in Wardour
Every now and then, a home hits the market that just takes your breath away.
Like this one in Wardour. It's more than 9000 square feet across three levels. When you walk in, you're greeted by a grand, two-story entry made of marble with an impressive curved staircase.
Then there’s the cozy family room with beautiful molding and a grand living room. With fireplaces in both! The huge kitchen is full of top-notch appliances, lots of cabinets, and plenty of counter space; plus there’s a massive curved island. And that's not all...
Adding to the allure is a heated saltwater pool surrounded by expansive decking and an integrated hot tub, perfect for entertaining or unwinding in style.
This could be your home soon. Contact Brad Kappel for your private tour today.

THE DIGEST
Coming to a school near you: Dr. Mark Bedell
Trust and accountability. Those are big goals for AACPS Superintendent Dr. Mark Bedell. So, he’s making himself available for community conversations. Join him at schools throughout the county for an hour of remarks and questions this spring. The first is March 4 at 6 PM at Broadneck High School. Here’s the full schedule.
Annapolis and the Civil Rights Movement
Did you know Annapolis played a crucial role in the Civil Rights Movement? And because 2024 is the 60th anniversary of this important turning point, Visit Annapolis released a Civil Rights Guide with dozens of local sites. You may be surprised to learn the significant role of places like Wiley H. Bates Middle School or Beverly Beach. Our suggestion? This guide has enough info for several field trips. Check it out and plan your own!
What’s next for the Chase-Lloyd House?
The historic Chase-Lloyd House has an uncertain future. After structural problems forced the final residents out, the nonprofit that runs it no longer uses it as a women’s shelter. The nonprofit won’t say exactly what comes next, but it’s likely the Episcopal Diocese of Maryland will take over – sparking questions about preservation and future use. Read the historical recount of the 253-year-old home from the Baltimore Banner’s Rick Hutzell. ($)

LOCAL BUSINESS
1 year, 3 locations: a Reclaimed story
Here’s a feel-good business story for you: Mark and Tracey Miller have been thriving in the Annapolis retail scene for a year now. They opened the doors of their furniture and home goods store Reclaimed in January 2024. Then came their second furniture shop, The Boathouse, last December. Things aren’t slowing down though. They’re celebrating their first year in biz in Annapolis with a third store. Keep an eye out for Annapolis Glassworks next to Middleton Tavern soon.

WHAT’S HAPPENIN’
🍿 Origin screening at Annapolis Mall AMC
There are still a couple of more days in Black History Month. And here’s a chance to end it in a way that will motivate you to keep learning all year round: Annapolis Recreation and Parks has arranged a free screening of Origin at Westfield Annapolis. The movie is based on the book Caste: The Origins of Our Discontents and promises plenty of thinking about race and hierarchy. Plan to stay for the panel discussion afterward! The screening is Thursday at 5:30 PM. It’s free but registration is required.
Summer Camp Expo & Family Fun Day 😎
If you haven’t planned summer camps for your kids, now is the time! The 2024 Anne Arundel Summer Camp Expo & Family Fun Day is free to attend and offers visits with camp reps, kids activities, and live entertainment. Bring the entire family this Saturday (3/2) from 11 AM–3 PM at Anne Arundel Community College.
Tix still available: CTA anniversary gala
Want to enjoy a fancy night out while supporting children’s arts? There’s still time to buy tickets for the Children’s Theatre of Annapolis’ 65th anniversary Jewel Ball this weekend. It’s a great excuse to dress your best, enjoy good food and drink, and dance the night away. Funds support CTA’s mission of serving families and the community with professional-quality children’s theater.
🎭 We’ve got a special connection to CTA: Scoop writer Dylan Roche has served on the board for 10 years (and he’s an alumnus) plus CTA was the beneficiary of Scoop’s first anniversary party.
