TOGETHER WITH
Good morning, Annapolis. Southwest revealed an America 250 livery at BWI on Monday and it goes hard. Doesn’t make up for getting rid of open seating though. . .
In today’s Naptown Scoop:
Navy football names captains
$20 million building sold on Forest Drive
Naptown Scoop Dinner Club #2
Let’s get to it.

The Pod: A Private Waterfront Estate in Severna Park
There’s a certain ease to a property that doesn’t need to prove anything.
At 423 Benfield Road, The Pod sits quietly behind the gates on more than seven acres along Forked Creek and the Severn River. The setting is expansive, but never overwhelming, designed to move naturally between moments of gathering and time set apart.
The grounds are layered with intention. A saltwater pool, spa, outdoor kitchen, and multiple terraces create a series of spaces that unfold throughout the day, while the private pier with deep water and lifts makes time on the river feel effortless.
Inside, approximately 8,000 square feet are arranged with a sense of balance and light. Living spaces flow easily, the kitchen anchors the home, and the main-level primary suite offers a quiet retreat with its own outlook to the water. A separate guest house provides additional privacy for extended stays.
A composed waterfront setting, just minutes from Annapolis.

LOCAL KNOWLEDGE
The real Commissioning Week guide
We accidentally republished a three-year-old Commissioning Week guide yesterday. Sorry about that, folks. The current one’s done now and it’s important even for old pros because there’s a big twist this year.
Hint: The twist is that Naval Academy access is strictly limited because of the war in Iran.
Commissioning Week is May 16–22 and as always, we can hardly wait for the Blue Angels. Fingers crossed for amazing weather!

Dog of the Week: Meet Teo 🐾
Sure, it’s puppy season, but may we suggest a different direction? Let’s have a look at Teo’s résumé:
A dream breed: This handsome poodle–golden retriever mix is four years young. Poodles are known for being low-shedding (your couch will thank you) and often hypoallergenic (so will your allergy-prone friends). And that gorgeous golden coat. Amiright?!
Yes, puppy energy is cute. But Teo is bubbly and energetic in a more . . . manageable way. Like not up at 3 AM way. You know — for potty breaks (or accidents). Quite the contrary, Teo is fully house-trained. He’s such a good boy and keeps a tidy kennel at the SPCA, where he moved in last month.
Bonus perks: Teo loves car rides and apparently vibing to “Coffee” by BTS. Honestly? Same. Time to hit a coffee drive-through and go pick up your new ride-or-die BFF. 🚘 ☕️

You must create a “When I die” binder
Almost nobody has one. Which means most grieving families spend weeks (sometimes months) wading through filing cabinets and drawers during the worst stretch of their lives.
The idea is simple. One binder with nine sections. Your personal info, professional advisors, insurance policies, assets and liabilities, passwords, legal documents, recurring bills & payments, and a step-by-step guide for those left behind.
It takes one Sunday afternoon to make and could spare your family weeks of painful chaos.
Here’s the part that should stop you. Section 2 is for professional advisors like financial planners. If something happened tomorrow, would that line be blank?
Scarborough Capital Management has helped Annapolis families fill it for over 35 years.

Lifesavers honored at City Council meeting

City of Annapolis
FY27 budget hearings kicked off at Monday’s city council meeting, which means now’s the time to weigh in if you’ve got opinions on how the city spends its (read: your) money. Hearings on the budget are also open at the next council meeting so if you missed Monday, you didn’t miss everything but the clock’s ticking. The council will vote on the final budget in June.
Plenty else happened, too:
Downtown street cafe rates - The council fast-tracked legislation to set rates for restaurants who want to set up dining areas in parking spots. Where Premium Parking’s in charge, the rate is 10x the daily rate. Outside of Premium Parking’s area, it’s $160 per month.
Citations for lifesavers - Last September, a guy was playing pickleball at PAL Park when he had a heart attack. Two nurses, Jackie Maloney and Tracy Patton, saved his life with help from none other than Governor Wes Moore and his security team. Talk about an awesome story.
Happy retirement - Captain Jen Kaye was honored for many years of creative Annapolis fun at the helm of her schooners Woodwind and Woodwind II. Jen’s parents commissioned the first Woodwind and started the business in the early 90s and it stayed in the family until they sold it to Andy Schell (59º North Sailing) and Ryan Ellison (Ryan & Sophie Sailing) last October.
The next meeting is May 11 at 7 PM.

In other news. . .
🍽️ Eat local, make new friends: Naptown Scoop Dinner Club’s second meeting is May 14 and since our Inaugural Club sold out in two days, we opened up a bunch more seats and a second location. You can choose between downtown or outside downtown. Take a personality quiz so we can match you up with like-minded folks and the right restaurant. We’ll handle the rest.
📅 What we’re looking forward to in May: April’s almost over. These are our favorite things happening in May.
🏉 Mids' Kicker in Running – Navy rugby's Roanin Krieger is one of four finalists for the 2026 Rudy Scholz Award, which goes to the nation's top college rugby player each year. Krieger — Navy's all-time leading scorer — was chosen through a public vote. A panel picks the winner next weekend, with a gala June 13 in Seattle.
🏢 Big Deal on Forest Drive – Hyatt Commercial closed the $19.5M sale of 1750 Forest Drive, a 120,750-square-foot Class A office building off Aris T. Allen Blvd. The property — home to the IRS, EPA, and National Park Service, among others — is one of the larger office transactions Annapolis has seen in recent memory.
🏈 Mids Pick Their Leaders – Safety Giuseppe Sessi and quarterback Braxton Woodson were voted 2026 Navy football team captains by their teammates. Sessi recorded 81 tackles last season; Woodson takes the reins at QB. The Mids open the season September 5 against Towson at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium.
🌿 Your Climate, Your Call – The City of Annapolis is hosting its final public conversation on the Annapolis Climate Action Plan Tuesday, May 5 from 6–8 p.m. at Pip Moyer Recreation Center (273 Hilltop Lane). It's the last chance to weigh in before the plan is finalized. More info at annapolis.gov.
