TOGETHER WITH

Good morning, Annapolis. Next time you’re driving with your kids and you pass some cows, say, “Look! A flock of cows!” And when your kids correct you with “herd of cows” you immediately say, “Of course I’ve heard of them. There’s a flock of them right there!”

In today’s Naptown Scoop:

  • Protecting our local trees

  • Bohemian Black closing at ATC

  • New Edgewater gym grand opening date

Let’s get to it.

A Good Time to Make Yoga a Habit

If yoga has become one of the best parts of your week, Yoga Factory just made it a little easier to keep showing up.

For a limited time, they’re offering unlimited yoga for $129 a month with their monthly auto-pay membership. That’s $26 off the regular monthly rate, and the savings continue for as long as you keep the membership.

The best part? There’s no long-term contract. You get the flexibility to take as many classes as you’d like each month, while still having the freedom to cancel anytime.

So whether you already have a favorite class on the schedule or you’ve been wanting to practice more consistently, this is a pretty good reason to roll out your mat more often.

And since it’s a limited-time offer, you’ll want to grab it while it’s available.

PUMP THE BRAKES (BUT ONLY A BIT)

Royal Farms approved on Forest Drive, minus four pumps ⛽

Watercolor architectural rendering of the proposed Royal Farms Fresh Market

Photo: Architect’s conceptual drawing pulled from public city records

The Annapolis Planning Commission approved the Royal Farms Fresh Market at Forest Drive and Tyler Avenue last Thursday night. But they did slash the number of gas pumps.

The commission capped the site at 12 fueling positions instead of 20 (aka 6 pumps vs. 10). Royal Farms said during the meeting that it could “live with” 8 pumps. Whether or not they’ll proceed with the $10–15 million project with 6 pumps is unknown. Indeed, most people who testified were fine with everything else but took issue with the fuel.

Approval came with two other conditions. Every tree felled gets replaced threefold, and the market must stay as described — about 5,700 square feet with produce (possibly supplied locally by Diehl’s), grab-and-go salads and wraps, and a sushi counter. It’ll be open 24 hours and accept SNAP and WIC.

One thing nobody's promising yet: the applicant says there's been interest in bringing something like the old Annapolis Seafood Market back into one of the two retail spaces.

PULL YOUR WEIGHT

Two ways to spend Saturday morning yanking invasive plants 🌳

Two local groups are in the woods on Saturday, September 26, doing the same unglamorous work in two different parks.

Save Our Trees opens its new season at Truxtun Park pulling English ivy off trees. Meet at the pool parking lot on Pump House Road. Bring water and clippers or loppers if you have them. And definitely wear long sleeves, long pants, and closed-toe shoes. There are 30 spots on the sign-up.

Scenic Rivers Land Trust is at Bacon Ridge Natural Area in Crownsville the same morning for National Public Lands Day. Arundel Rivers Federation is coming along to run mindfulness breaks between rounds of vine pulling, which sounds like a joke until you’ve spent two hours fighting a stubborn vine. Tools and training are provided, you need to be able to hike up to a mile to the work area, and kids 10 to 15 can come with an adult. But it only happens if at least five people register.
