TOGETHER WITH

Good morning, Annapolis. The portly pumpkins spread across downtown Annapolis are getting carved on Thursday so we have some advice.

  • Want to see them in their original 1,000+ pound glory? Go for a walk before Thursday.

  • Want to catch the artists carving orange-handed? Thursday’s your day.

  • Want to see what would have happened if Michelangelo’s chosen canvas was rind not rock? Go for a walk after Thursday but before November 2. As we all know, carved pumpkins don’t stay fresh long.

In today’s Naptown Scoop:

  • 100 Lots closes doors in Edgewater

  • Catching up with Annapolis’ mayoral candidates

  • Anne Arundel reschedules slavery apology

Let’s get to it.

Speaking of who’s running for mayor

The Capital interviewed both candidates, Robert O’Shea (aka Bobby) and Jared Littmann, so you could get a closer look at their platforms. And before anyone gets upset that we listed the Republican first. . . someone has to go first so we flipped a coin. O’Shea won. Must be the luck of the Irish.

  • Republican O’Shea’s running to shake things up at City Hall with budget cuts, reevaluating the City Dock project, improving public safety, and decreasing taxes and fees for residents. Read more about his platform.

  • Democrat Littmann’s running to focus on “basic core services,” be more efficient with tax dollars, improve public safety and housing, and simplify permitting. Read more about his platform.

Annapolis earns Sustainable Maryland Certified Award 🥈

Annapolis just snagged a Silver certification from Sustainable Maryland — again. The city’s been re-certified every three years since 2013, this time earning praise for projects like City Dock and its solar park habitat. Getting Silver (which is actually the highest level), requires 400 points across various categories. 17 other MD towns were also certified or re-certified with Gaithersburg earning the most points with 715.

100 Lots closes in Edgewater

Sad news out of Edgewater. Just about a month after being listed for sale with a local restaurant broker, 100 Lots in Edgewater announced it’d be closing this weekend with very little notice. On Friday, the restaurant posted on social media that its last day of operation would be Sunday (yesterday). Dozens of loyal fans commented on Facebook to show their support.

County champions crowned: Cross-country, soccer, volleyball, and field hockey

It was a banner weekend for high school sports — and some serious streaks got snapped.

Cross Country
Severn Run senior Tre Kelly ran away with the boys county title in 16:04, becoming the first-ever champ for his brand-new school. Crofton won the boys team title, ending Severna Park’s 14-year reign.

On the girls side, Josephine Kamas of Severna Park won a second straight individual title with 19:36 and led the Falcons to their sixth straight team championship.

Girls Soccer
Severna Park shut out South River 4–0 for a third straight county title. Freshman Carlee Scott opened the scoring, and senior Maria Bragg added two more. That’s 9 shutouts and counting this season for the Falcons.

Boys Soccer
Revenge was served cold. Broadneck edged Severna Park 2–1, thanks to a second-half penalty kick from Wilson Banwell. It’s the Bruins’ first county crown since 2022.

Field Hockey
South River stunned Severna Park 2–0 for its first county title since 2013. The O’Connell sisters powered the offense, and Emma Bonaccorsy stood tall in goal. Defense was the name of the game — the Seahawks shut down every Falcon corner.

Volleyball
Broadneck outlasted Arundel in five tight sets to repeat as champs. Senior Kennedy Smith dropped 21 kills, and freshman Alexis Luscomb served three straight aces in the final set to seal it. ($)

Next stop: Regionals. Let the playoff push begin.
