TOGETHER WITH

Good morning, Annapolis. My Christmas tree went up yesterday. I’m not sorry about it. Who said you have to wait until after Thanksgiving? At least I didn’t do it in October.

In today’s Naptown Scoop:

  • Triple Crown repeat

  • Carr’s Beach dance party

  • Lighthouse calendar

Let’s get to it.

UNOFFICIAL RESULTS

Buckley, Pickard, Henson lead, and Pulliam pulls ahead in District 7 🗳️

Gavin Buckley looks set to go from City Hall to the County Council. With all 35 of District 6’s Election Day precincts in, the former Annapolis mayor has 63% of the vote against Republican George Gallagher.

Allison Pickard (D) leads Dave Crawford (R) for county executive, 59% to 41%. And Gov. Wes Moore won a second term over Dan Cox. The AP called it at 8:01 PM, one minute after polls closed.

District 7 swung the other way once Election Day precincts came in. Dawn Pulliam (R) took the lead over Spencer Jones (D), who owns Chick & Ruth’s Delly. She’s up 52% to 48%, or 1,379 votes. Jones won the mail-ins, but Pulliam won Election Day voting by about 3,300. More mail-in ballots still need counting, and those have favored Jones, so this one isn’t over.

  • 🗳️ Charter questions: All three are passing. Question A (binding arbitration for county unions) has 70%, B (drops the Administrative Officer title) has 52%, and C (Planning Advisory Board terms) has 72%.

In the District 30 Senate race, Sen. Shaneka Henson (D) leads Jessica Haire (R) 57% to 43%. The district covers Annapolis, Edgewater, and Shady Side. Henson was appointed to the seat in 2025, and this is her first Senate election.

These are unofficial results, last updated by the state at 3:44 AM Wednesday. They include early voting, all 196 Election Day precincts, and the mail-ins counted so far. The rest of the mail-in ballots and the provisional ballots still need counting, so the numbers can move. Full results here.

Dog of the Week: Meet Pancake 🐾

Pancake has been at the SPCA since June. And she wrote her own bio. In French. Sort of.

“Bonjour, Chef Pancake here with some food for thought,” it starts. Her recipes include enthusiasm, smiles, happiness, and “a heapin’ spoonful of love.” Bon appétit.

Off the menu, this six-year-old shepherd mix is a fluffy, medium-sized cuddle bug. She loves walks, exploring, and snuggling. Her favorite move is to sit between your legs so you can pet her. And when the volunteers who walk her show up at her kennel, she loses her mind (in the good way).

Pancake gets nervous around new people and new places. So she’d do best in a home with kids 12 and up. Other dogs and cats? Probably not. But once she knows she’s safe with you, the SPCA says she’ll be the most affectionate friend you’ve ever had. She’s housetrained, too.

If your ideal Saturday morning is a short stack and a long walk, start an application to meet Pancake today.

CROWN, TWICE

Tradecraft repeats as Triple Crown of Charity Sailing champs 👑

Roger Mason and Chris Valentino of Team Tradecraft won the Weems & Plath Triple Crown of Charity Sailing Trophy again.

If you’re new here, the Triple Crown comprises three charity sailing regattas: the Maryland Cures Cancer Regatta, the CRAB Cup, and the Hospice Cup. You win by finishing near the front on the water and raising a lot of money on land. Tradecraft finished sixth in one race and second in the other two. And they raised more than $56,000.

  • ⛵ The fleet: 215 boats and 1,000+ sailors raised $604,000 across the three races this year.

Btw, Mason said he’s happy to help any team with fundraising in the future. Which goes to show you the spirit of this competition. In the Triple Crown, nice people don’t always finish last.

In other news. . .

🎷 Life’s a Beach – The Blacks of the Chesapeake Foundation is honoring its late founder, Vince Leggett, with a night of dinner, dancing, and tributes. Leggett, AKA the “Admiral of the Chesapeake,” spent decades preserving the story of Carr’s, Sparrow’s, and Elktonia Beaches. During segregation, they were one of the only ways Black people could enjoy the Chesapeake Bay (and some of the 50s’ biggest musicians). Proceeds go to the foundation’s youth programs. It’s Friday at Beacon Waterfront. Tickets are here.

📸 Light Reading – Bad news: The Thomas Point Shoal Lighthouse needs to get lifted about 6 feet to protect it from rising water levels. Worse news: That’s expensive. But the good news is that you can help. The lighthouse’s 2027 calendar just went on sale. It’s chock-full of David Sites photos, and about half of each purchase supports the effort. Click here to get yours.

🎣 Last Cast – If you’ve been meaning to get in on Fish For A Cure, now’s the time. Boat spots for Saturday’s fishing tournament are almost gone, and so are tickets to the Shore Party at Safe Harbor Annapolis. Every dollar goes to the Cancer Survivorship Program at Luminis Health Anne Arundel Medical Center. Can’t fish? You can still back a boat (or go to the party). Register, donate, or grab tickets here.
