Per the 20th amendment of the U.S. Constitution, Joe Biden will officially be sworn in as our 46th president at noon on Wednesday. Coverage of the event varies from the bare minimum to do-you-have-anything-else-to-talk-about levels. Here's how to tune in and what to expect.
First, Donald Trump won't attend. He's headed to his residence in Florida. He's not the first president to play hooky, but he is the first in 152 years. Vice President Mike Pence will be there, as will former presidents Barack Obama, George W. Bush, and Bill Clinton. The only other living former Commander in Chief—96 year old Jimmy Carter—will stay home in Georgia due to COVID risks.
ABC will air from 9 AM to 4 PM. They'll also have an inauguration special at 8 PM before Celebrating America.
CBS will also air 9 AM to 4 PM with their own inauguration special at 8 PM.
CNN is going for the gold with coverage starting Tuesday at 4 PM and ending Thursday at 4 AM.
FOX will air from 11 AM to 4 PM.
MSNBC will begin coverage at 9 AM and close with in depth analysis of the day starting at 11 PM.
NBC coverage starts at 10 AM and ends at 4 PM.
PBS airs at 10:30 AM.
The easiest place to watch is bideninaugural.org/watch or the inaugural committee YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, or Twitch.
You can also watch on Roku with ABC News, Cheddar, NBC News NOW, or Newsy.
PBS will stream their coverage and Celebrating America on the PBS NewsHour platform.
Cheddar will cover from 7 AM to 8 PM. You can get this on Roku, PlutoTV, or Tubi.
PlutoTV (browser-based with no sign in) will stream coverage from PlutoTV News, CBSN, CNN, NBC News Now, Sky News, Bloomberg Television, and Cheddar.
Instead of a traditional inauguration ball, we'll have a special 90 minute TV program called Celebrating America hosted by none other than Tom Hanks. Joe Biden and Kamala Harris will speak alongside special guests Ant Clemons, Jon Bon Jovi, Foo Fighters, John Legend, Eva Longoria, Demi Lovato, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Bruce Springsteen, Justin Timberlake, Black Pumas, and Kerry Washington.
Celebrating America goes live at 8:30 PM. Catch it on ABC, CBS, CNN, NBC, MSNBC, and PBS. Alternatively, stream it at bideninaugural.org/watch or the inaugural committee YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, or Twitch. You can also stream it on Amazon Prime Video, Microsoft Bing, Fox NewsNOW, and AT&T U-verse.
At the inauguration itself, Jennifer Lopez will perform and Lady Gaga will sing the national anthem. It was also recently announced that Garth Brooks will grace the stage. Sounds more like friends in high places if you ask me.
Governor Larry Hogan declared a state of emergency due to the inauguration. This will allow MD to rapidly send our emergency resources to DC, neighboring states, or our own cities if things turn sour. Conversely, it opens us up to receive similar help from our neighbors.
